Land and Water Conservation Fund Reauthorization Act

July 21, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
The title refers to a piece of legislation passed by Congress and signed by the president this spring which according to my running companion is the most significant piece of progressive/liberal legislation she has helped pass during her seven months working on Capitol Hill. Too bad she’s off to Yale in another month - there goes all hope of anything else important making its way through Congress.

It was hot—and early—though not as hot as my 13 miles of insanity with Jacob Gaba yesterday nor as early as Isabel’s 5:15 wake up Saturday to “practice hiking with a backpack” for her orientation trip. Honestly, after what I saw on today’s run, I don’t think she needs any practice. We kept up a decent pace without stopping in what proved to be a 40-minute intellectual steam of consciousness (with hills). We headed from my house down the alleys paralleling 33rd St to Temple Sinai, Linnean, Davenport, Ft. Reno, and then some combination of streets I don’t remember but was probably just the 39th street loop till we magically arrived at Kirsches’ house on Brookville. Had a good chat with Isabel and her mom while we stretched and rehydrated. Over the course of 90 minutes of running and recovery we managed to cover sorority culture, the patriarchy, social science survey experiments, the Hatch Act, camping backpacks, canvassing in New Hampshire, ethnic conflict, interview research, Congressional softball teams, and the electability of various female presidential candidates. What did YOU do before breakfast?
