All the countries

July 26, 2019 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
The other coaches and I decided to have everyone at summer running find as many countries as they could in 35 minutes for our Friday Gameday. Countries could be represented through restaurants, embassies, flags, etc.
Myles, Nathaniel Rosenberg, and I set off down Embassy Row, but soon had a much better idea: run to the Kennedy Center's Hall of Nations, where all the flags of the world are hung. We figured that even if we were an hour late that with the 1 country per minute penalty we'd established we'd still come out on top. In fact, we were beaten, sort of, by the goofball hurdler trio (Ella, Ruby, and Camilla) who after searching the wine section at a local supermarket resorted to running up and down the halls of St. Albans till they found a classroom with a world map. Still, I think when it comes to the spirit of the competition we were victorious. Apparently, there are 191 countries' flags represented at the Kennedy Center, less than the number UN members curiously, and no one working the Kennedy Center whom we asked knew how many there were (I had to count them). The hill back on Wisconsin was not as bad as we'd expected, though Nathaniel may beg to differ. A slash through the fountains at the Georgetown waterfront and dancing on a street corner to a lone trumpet player when we were caught in a red light made it that much more of an experience.
