Drove up to camp in the "low Sierras" in Julie's car. Usual crowd. EJ was there with Vina and joined me for the run. Leah was with us for the first 12 minutes up to the top of the campground and back just past camp. EJ and I picked up the pace and went out of the camp for a couple of minutes before turning back around on the little dirt road we'd found. He asked if we could run full speed back to camp and I reluctantly agreed. As predicted, he (being a very athletic 9 year-old) took off like a shot and opened up a few meters on me for the first 20 seconds. then I overtook him and opened up a 30 meter lead before doubling back and jogging in together for the final half mile. I'd like to get my hands on him in a few years, though! forgot to mention it when backlogging Saturday, but that was the day we took the treacherous hike midday up the hills above the campground, down to the creek to watch Peter mine for gold, and then back along the far side of the creek while trespassing in plain site through absurdly rugged and steep terrain. A fun 4 hours of drama...
