Amazing workout...I was supposed to do mile repeats on the track at a nice steady 6 min mile pace, with 4 minute half mile recovery in between each. This seemed like it would be tough but I was into it I like being on the track for a workout. Went through the normal pre workout song and dance of stretching striding and jumping around. In my head i somehow thought quarter mile splits of 75 seconds would put me right at six minute pace...That is because I am stupid and didnt realize hey no thats 5 flat mile pace. I started split through 400 right on pace, then as i came though half mile in 2:30 it hit me...I was on my way to a 5 flat mile, but to my delight the whole thing felt pedestrian pace easy. I did some quick math in my head slowed down the next two laps and cruised through in a nice easy 5:27 smiling. I jogged over to Bill(coach) showed him my watch and he just shrugged and smiled. At this point it was on. Next mile same story just much more even in my splits rolling through the finish in a nice 5:25. Same response from Bill. The last one was as easy as the first I felt like a machine but had some shitty 90's power ballad stuck in my head, whatever gets you through though. I hit 200 meters to go right on pace and opened up just a little closing the whole ordeal in 5:20 It felt gooooood....Cool down time I was like a little kid I wanted to just run and jump and smile I just felt so good. I passed a few runners and started thinking. Why where they out there? Where they training for something? Did they just have visions of jealous relatives come holidays staring at there still summer ready body? Where they chasing their own greatness somewhere down the line? A 5k, a marathon, 5 more lbs? Anyway, I cant wait to race only a few hundred days to go.
