All the Swag!

August 26, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Today's run was a riff on the 49th street loop. I think. All I know as that as we coaches were huddling to decide which of us would take what route, Anthony threw out a meaningless string of names like Arizona, MacArthur, Yuma, Loughboro and somehow expected we could piece it together into a run. On at least three occasions Nomi, Ethan, Myles, and I took our groups along different streets only to reconvene at a later point. I have no idea how close we came to what Anthony had intended, but we did get back to school in under 50 minutes allowing us to be on time to Dave Gillespe's coaches meeting so I'd call that a success. I attended the meeting even though I'm not an official coach and as a result, I got free swag! Between the four clothing items I got from Dave plus the shirt I got at camp, the shirt and boathouse jacket I got when I played ping pong in Anthony's overstuffed basement back in July, and the half dozen GDS shirts I already had, I now possess far more GDS-branded merch than I owned when I attended or worked there. Plus, I now have my own tie-dye! Or at least, I think it's mine. AnSo and I were about 80% sure that out of all the size medium shirts with no name that were leftover after most of the girls picked theirs up, this was probably the one I tie-dyed on Tuesday. I'm very proud of how it came out. Major points to Halle McLean and others for their artistic guidance.

The run itself was fun. Talked to Caleb S-S for the first mile and then Nathaniel and Natasha for the middle miles. Really wonderful to see so many people stepping up to run with groups they didn't used to even consider being able to keep up with (that also includes Arthur, Arya, Camilla, Lucy Vogt). For the last mile and half from BK back to school I ran with AnSo and talked about the senior retreat, political psychology experiments, and the (sometimes negative) effects of humanitarian aid on armed conflict.
