Slow and pitiful

September 4, 2019 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Today was a bad day. Then I went for a run. It didn't help. I thought I was going fast. I was not. My body and my GPS are having a serious disagreement. Since when did 7:40 pace feel like tempo to me? Prior to this summer, not since high school. As soon as I stopped focusing on trying to run swiftly, my pace declined to the 10ish. Uggg. But then again, maybe the fact that I did a track workout with 5 miles at what's probably (on average) my current 5k pace last night has something to do with it?

Fun fact of the day: Apparently cars don't enjoy getting rest and recovery. Especially if that recovery period is say, I dunno, 14 months? The Hyundai folks are charging me $400 just to diagnose all the things that are wrong with it. Still, the 5-mile bike ride home from the dealership was pretty nice. Got to ride on the Minuteman Trail. And then, totally randomly, a young woman running towards me at a fairly fast clip made eye contact, slowed down, and asked if I'd gone to GDS. Said she'd run track and graduated in '15 and that she recognized me from the times I'd come back to practices or meets. I only came to like one practice and maybe one meet a year (if that) in those days because I was coaching at Milton, so I'm super impressed she recognized me four years later, especially given that my face was partly obscured by a bicycle helmet. I never really coached her since she was a sprinter/mid-distance person so I never could have recognized her, but I have heard her name many times: Emilia Kaslow-Zieve.
