Trapped in the Closet

September 13, 2019 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
My running log from this morning is fake. I wrote it to deflect any suspicion that I might be coming home. In reality, I ran with Zeke. It was great. See his log for details.

This afternoon I surprised the team, successfully, at practice by leaping out of the athletic closet where I'd been hiding for the last 40 minutes. I had some crucial aid in this endeavor from the likes of Agent T-Rod and Agent Ax Murderer, as well as Supervisory Agents Kilometer and The Prophet. (Let me know when you figure out who all four of those refer to.) Together they managed to smuggle me in from The Prophet's car in the garage to the closet of the wresting room, keeping a lookout for errant runners who might be wandering the halls half an hour before practice. Briefly had a scare when a coach from another team came in to get some green sports bags for his athletes, but Agent Ax Murderer managed to intercept him and brief him on what he would find when he opened the doors. The leap out of the closet took everyone by surprise and was sufficiently dramatic to live up to the exacting standards of Amelia "Next time had better be as good at the cardboard box surprise" Myre. Major props to my two trusty agents who kept the secret so well for over 18 hours and didn't giggle while making their fake announcement about a special order to psych up the team they had waiting in the closet.

Run was delightful as well. Ran with Lauren, Myles, Lyra, Barbara, Liam Z. initially, and one other person, I think, as far as Ward, then merged in with another group the rest of the way to BK. Learned a lot from Lyra about nuclear arms control. Once in the parking lot at the base of the hill we did striders, which for me seemed rather endless as more kids kept arriving and doing them. I gave everyone feedback on their form. Jogged back after with Sophie A., Camilla, and Abby. All in all, the perfect practice.

Later, Lauren, Nomi, and I chaperoned the girls' team movie night where the team watched Mulan and ate pizza in the library. When I was a kid, libraries were not for eating pizza and DEFINITELY not for movies with very loud commentary, but hey, times change. Hadn't seen Mulan since watching it in my friend and teammate's Linday Booker's basement in 10th grade with a bunch of runner and non-runner friends, which, in case anyone's wondering, was more or less typical of Saturday evening social life for me in high school. I'm glad I'd already seen in, cause the amount of talking (to which I contributed a fair share) drowned out many of finer plot points. We finished just before security kicked us out around 9:35. Boys' team, you too should see this movie if you haven't; it's awesome. We learned tonight that Lucy Vogt and Amelia Myre are, in fact, different people. Ameilia was seeing Mulan for the first time. Lucy knows all the dialogue by heart and led 5 of her teammates in a dramatic reenactment/dancification of "I'll Make a Man Out of You." Good times had by all.
