Jernst, Century, Bagels and a Beardtrim

September 12, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
This title more or less sums up my morning. Ran into Julia Ernst as I was biking home from synagogue last night and we decided to go running the next morning at 6:30am. It had to be early cause she had work and I already had another run planned for 7:15. I ended up waking up at 5-something and took the T two stops to meet her at her new house in Beacon Hill just across the recently-renovated Longfellow Bridge. We had a delightful conversation about roommates and cleanliness for half an hour while trying to navigate our way around North Station, then through the Station itself, and eventually across the floating bridge of scaffolding and locks that only super cool runners know about. We ended up near Inman Square where I bid her farewell and then scampered off to meet my college teammate Colin "Century" Carroll.

Century and I did 6 miles out and back on the Somerville Community Path and Minuteman Trail. We average 7:20 in light rain and talked the whole way about running stuff and programming. I got a whole lecture on how Hamiltonian Monte Carlo sampling works, which I think I understood/absorbed about half of. So good to have running friends back in town. He and his wife (also a friend and former teammate of mine) Karin Knudson just moved to Boston from Andover, as did Williams teammates/friends Sean and Rachel Hyland who live just up the street from them. We even saw Sean on our run!

Following the run I jogged over to Porter Square where there was no line at Bagelsaurus on account of the rain. Don't people still want their bagels when it's raining? I know I do. Following my bagel fix, I stopped in at the barber next door to get a beard trim. Doing errands in the rain is great - less of a line. Then I jogged home though made a wrong turn on the way and ended up running past the place where I used to live in Inman. All in all, felt good. My hamstring started to be slightly noticeable, but not as acute as Tuesday. Looking forward to tomorrow's run with another Williams athlete.
