Salesianum (I think that’s spelled right)

October 5, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Cool

Comments:
Today was very nice weather, I woke up and had my usual breakfast of peanut butter toast with bananas then I came to school. I did leave a little early because once I got to school I realized that the bus is leaving in 25 mins, but it’s okay. We got on the bus and left. On the bus we listened to music and discussed the race. By then I had somewhat decided that my racing “strategy” would be to just send it, so just run and not worry about being tired. Well we got to salesianum and put out stuff down, I ran to the bathroom (of course) then we went on our jog around the course. This made me rethink my racing strategy since it looked pretty hilly but ultimately I decided, whatever, it’s only my third race who knows what can happen? This kind of came from in past races wishing I had gone faster at points or just settling into a rhythm.

I watched almost all of the races today, with an exception of the JV A girls and boys since we were warming up. But everyone I saw was running so strong and I that definitely was getting me hyped for our race. During this time I ate my lunch and maybe ate a little too much because as we were warming up I did not feel good. I felt heavy and tired and sore. But as usual it all went away as I did the last strider back from our pack meeting thing right before the start. I took off my layers of sweatshirts and long sleeves because it was actually kind of chilly today and got on the line with Abby, Ana-Sophia, Ella, Annie, Dora, and Lucy. The gun went off and we started running.

I went out kinda fast just not thinking about it much, but holding back so I wasn’t straining or punching very hard. At this point I saw Ella in the pack right in front of me, so I was kind of nervous I went out to fast, but I just kept going because I couldn’t go back now. I think I kept Zeke’s idea of just deciding to push in the front of my mind because I kept thinking of it. As I slowed a little or a girl would come up behind me I would just try to push forward more to either stay with them or catch someone up ahead. The second mile was kind of lonely because I was running in between a few groups of people but at the death march I tried to get up to them more. The death march was hard because at that point I was in a small group of me, Lauren Ives (a girl from NCS who I actually went to elementary school with), and another girl. We kept passing each other and it was kind of weird and probably not a great place to put my energy so I just ran on the side more. After the death march there is the wall part of it where you go down then up the hill then back down I think, I don’t really know, but as I was entering Arthur yelled “if you’re going to send it this is the time to do it!” So I laughed and ran harder up the hill because of it. I kept telling myself that I was going to catch the NCS girl right in front of me who had pulled away. On the down hill part right before the finish I just ran down it because I knew I was almost done and ran for the finish. I ended up catching an NCS girl, even though it wasn’t the one that I was trying to catch, but it’s good either way. And I was done. That was definitely the hardest race yet. Throughout the race I was just thinking, wow is this how it’s supposed to feel? Oh no, should I go back to soccer this is really hard! Just kidding, well I did think it once. Anyway super fun race and I got 11th and a new pr!! Which was crazy! But I guess I run my best races when I’m full, in freshman year at dc states in the winter I last minute was told that I was running the 4x400 after I had eaten my whole dinner 10 minutes earlier, then I pred by like 3 seconds. So maybe I’ll eat a lot before every race.

Anyway the meet was super fun and girls varsity got second!!! Right behind NCS.
