Glory days

October 12, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Cool

Comments:
I woke up and had some breakfast which was toast with banana and peanut butter, and left for the early bus. Once I got there I helped with some water coolers and waited for the bus. Once more people got there Anthony told some of us that the bus was running late!! We went up to 42nd st. and lied down for a while then we left. As we were getting closer to the meet we realized that we still might be able to watch some of the open race! When we were pulling up we saw mark at the front of the race then the rest of the coaches coming in. We cheered and quickly unloaded the bus and ran over to watch some of the rest of the race. It was super fun to see the coaches and alumni run.

We jogged the course once the other bus came and it was super confusing even though I went to see the last part of it with Ethan Burns, Abby, Dora, Ana-Sophia, and Lucy I think. We talked about the race and how excited we were. Then we watched some of the races which were incredible. All of the freshman boys pred so that was a great kickoff to the day. We watched a lot of the other races and I ate some food. Then a few of us fell asleep during the 2nd boys JV race that we were not in. After that we cheered some more and started warming up a little later.

We jogged around and watched some of the varsity boys race. Which looked very exciting. We saw a glimpse of Oliver in 2nd!!! Then we did the moving dynamics and today I felt much better than usual on those drills. Nomi told me not to do lunges today which I had done in every single race before I have ever run. So maybe that’s why I pred. I talked to Nomi before the race and talked about trying to stay with the top runners and seeing if I could just hang on. Then we ran to the start with plenty on time to spare (that doesn’t happen often). We did the striders and got back to the line. Then we started!!

I started the race at the very front of the pack then realized I had no idea where we were going so I tucked in behind a flint hill girl. At the mile marker I was in sixth place and I was feeling good but tired. I knew I was running hard but I thought I could keep the pace and trust myself. Coming through the one mile mark I heard my split at 6:20 and got panicked for a second then realized it’s all good and I should just run what I run. So I stuck with the front pack and people were falling off of it as we ran so I was moving up in places without doing much. In the second mile I was kind of dying but kept telling myself to stay with those two girls. I tried really hard to push the downhills and keep the pace on the few uphills. The cheering was very exciting and made me very happy while running. On the last mile I was just trying to keep moving. Every single person that was cheering told me to stay with the two people in front of me and pass them. I was trying to but also I think I may have been a little too comfortable in 3rd. My kick wasn’t as aggressive as normal but that also may be because I was tired from the race. I finished in 3rd and ran a pr of a minute and a half. It was super fun to watch Charlie’s race and Ella’s race. Which was so incredible. Oh and those 40 minutes between the end of my race and the end of Ella’s I was faster than her!! Wow best 40 minutes of my life just kidding. Maybe ;) her race was so incredible and we ran around the whole course to watch. And she broke 20 by one second!!!! It was so awesome to watch the super strong finish. Fun fact I am exactly 30 seconds away from both Ella and Annie. 19:59 20:29 and 20:59 which were all ran today. It was such a fun day. And varsity girls got 1st!!!! We got a wooden plaque or cutting board or something.

Goodnight!
