5k disassembled

October 16, 2019 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Since I have a fast 5K course coming up on Saturday, I decided it might be productive to do the same workout that Anthony had the team do yesterday. Plus, the track was unavailable. After 2 miles of warm up I headed down to the river to run mile repeats. Although the river is flat the wind factor I believe is roughly equivalent to the up and down hill you get on the Crescent Trail near River Road so overall I think I did virtually the same workout including a hard 200 on the way home. Plus I did 8 really high-quality striders beforehand where I tried to go almost all out as I would in the close of a race and then actually hold it for a whole hundred to 150m which is farther than I usually strive for. The striders definitely made me feel unsure of myself given how tired I was feeling towards the end of them, but as usual, they didn’t seem to take much of a toll.

On the pickups I was worried that I wasn’t running fast enough and would be unable to sustain a race pace without other people around me or splits from running on the track but each time I finished I was pleasantly surprised by what my watch showed. The middle one which was the one into the wind was nearly as fast as my first and although my third one got off to a slow start because I was fidgeting with the songs on my phone I managed to kick it in during the second half when the Boondock Saints song came on. Now I feel good about this workout and ready to hopefully run a fast race this weekend.

I had a pretty fast pace on my cooldown as well because I was late for a board meeting at my synagogue which I had told the other trustees to please be on time for. Somehow I managed to squeeze in a shower and get there only a little late at the price of not stretching (and having to save my core and hip exercises for right before bedtime, not ideal for falling asleep)
Also, I caught two leaves. I would’ve caught more but I had a cell phone in my hand which impeded my leave catching abilities significantly. Plus it was dark. I did manage to send certain individuals live updates of my leaf-catching progress though so that was almost worth it.

GO NATS!!!!!!!!!!!!
