My legs are finally feeling light and happy and free!!!
And so is me!!!
Everything in life is better if it involves running with EKZ!!!

Met up with Emilia Kalsow-Zieve tonight at her apartment in Porter for my second run of the day. I'd been planning for a couple weeks now to offer her the chance to go for a "test run" before her half-marathon in 10 days since she's never run one before and doesn't yet know what pace she should aim for. That said, I didn't exactly TELL her that's what we were doing... I just asked if she was healthy and still planning on racing and whether running for "around an hour" sounded good to her. It did. We headed off on the Minuteman Trail at her suggestion, which turned out to pretty dark between Alewife and Arlington, but well lit after that. We returned via Mass Ave.

Maybe it having done a light run already this morning to get my muscles loose, or maybe it was the 3 1/2 hour nap I took afterward, or perhaps running with delightful GDS alum always improves my spirits, but my legs and body felt GREAT. It's really the first time in weeks I can say that. We sailed along at a brisk clip talking the whole way and neither of us ever feeling tired. The trail is beautiful, even in the dark, and so peaceful in some places. The air was temperate as an early spring night with a slight breeze ruffling the leaves on all sides. Talked about the amazing Nats in their World Series game last night which we apparently both watched under similar circumstances: yelling at the screen and surrounded by people who didn't care. Emilia flying home to attend Game 4! And John Biersteker who I ran with this morning is also flying home to attend game 3! Soooo jealous. Wish I was flying home to attend a legendary sports event.

Emilia told me afterwards she felt a lot more confident going into her half as a result of this run. Mission accomplished!
