Surprisingly not sore!

October 28, 2019 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Myles swung by my parents' house at 3 o'clock this afternoon in his convertible with the top down, and I attempted to gallantly leap into the passenger seat in a one-handed swoop. This did not end well. Nor did it start well and the "middle mile" was nothing to brag about. Still, I managed to insert myself into the vehicle, and we were off to GDS.

Based on this ignoble start to practice, and the fact that my mileage had jumped from 57 miles to weeks ago to...uhhh.....102.6 last week...I assumed I would be pretty sore and slugging on today's run. But as it turned out, I was fine! I should do almost-marathons with Julia, Jon, and Emily every Sunday! Well, I did struggle at first to keep up with Evan Banerjee up the "hill" from the entrance of the forum to 42nd street, but once I decided that chatting would be more fun than complaining, I forgot to notice whether I was sore or not. Myles and I ran with the boys team out Wisconsin to Western within a couple blocks of my house. Arthur D-V, Caleb S-S, and Ethan W were turning around at Pinehurst Circle, so I figured I had better turn around too in order to take advantage of the rare opportunity to be part of one of those highly-detailed descriptions of mid-run conversations Arthur puts in his running logs. Did I succeed? I don't know; I haven't read his yet. If it's over 4500 words again, Arthur, I'm just gonna do a Cmd + F to find my name rather than reading through it. While I'm on that topic, the internet agrees me with and not Camilla Salwen that a normal double-spaced page is 250 words; thus Arthur's log from Saturday is the equivalent of an 18-page senior paper.

When we got back to Chevy Chase Circle, my aversion to out-and-back loops on major avenues become too strong to bear, and I led the boys astray on an adventure they will never forget. Or maybe they've already forgotten (as I said earlier, I haven't read Arthur's log yet). Hopefully, Caleb and Ethan at least will remember that glorious time in October 2019 when we "Conquered the Belt!" by exploring the former deer trail that Anthony made in his youth. As you might guess, this run was suffused with legend and lore, which I hope will only grow and become more fantastical in the years to come. Then I got back to school and "stretched" with the men's team on the field, which seemed to involve as much talking about stretching as actually doing it, not to mention brief soccer and frisbee scrimmages. Talked to Caleb about Hawai'i (the W is pronounced "v"). Then hung around even longer with Myles and some of the women's team. Learned that AnSo and Adina hang around practice for an hour after their runs for the same reason Myles and I do--to put off doing work. And because it's just so much fun. But now it's time for bed. Consider this my contribution to the women's team's goodnight group chat. It's 11:14pm. Adina, stop reading this log and go to bed. Goodnight!
