Coaching 3.2 mile races

November 2, 2019 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: near 50, sun, some mud and wet ground

Comments:
DCSAA Championships were again mid-measured. It is very frustrating that the state meet does not consistently measure the course correctly and that our athletes don't get to know how fast they are for an end-of-season 5km. Still, such is the nature of cross country running. Going back in history, cross country was never about racing on standard-lengthed courses for times. It was about lining up on a start line with others who thought the challenge of running over hill and dale would be satisfying or character building... and racing then to see who could get to the finish line first. Watch the "Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner" which I think I did about 20 years ago. Either way, our team embodied the spirit of the day, racing with everything we had for ourselves and our team and for the essence of the sport. We ran good (for at least 3.2 miles).
