A memorable one with a gnome

Comments:
One of my favorite aspects of the time between running seasons is starting my runs at the LMS. Today I arranged to meet Naomi Miller there after my Dr. Beck appointment and before I collected Anna from rehearsal. As I write this, I realize this might be my last November for runs like this. We set off at nearly 5, having just missed the sunset and went up river on the trolley trail until it spills onto Sherrier. Cut over to Potomac Ave and then found the trail in the dark which leads down to the "graffiti bridge."Took Crescent to Fletchers to Reservoir Rd to trolley trail to LMS. Let the conversation die down and savored the sound of our footsteps as we rushed briskly through the glooming twilight along course 1. Pace might have been below 7:30s, and it certainly felt like we were gliding quickly and effortlessly for that final mile, having been slowly accelerating since the turnaround. It was wonderful to have a run with Nomi, to get an unexpected present from her brother Solomon and to have had a run like this on what truly felt like the first day of winter. Also, after being absurdly sore all day from the 90 minutes of soccer, it felt good to loosen up and forget my aches, for a bit.
