Comments:
. . . until I was congratulated on the phone afterwards by Anthony for getting out and running! Inwardly shouted myself into this run, put on two quarter zips and got after it. Before I often thought of running as an escapist physical challenge to occupy the leisure time afforded to us by the post-industrial world. But lately I've combined thoughts about running with my future life goals, creating strange equivalencies and unsettling questions, like, "If you can't go running in the rain/cold, how can you ever have a successful academic career?" This was very much the thinking today, plus my lower calves were killing me for most of the run and I just couldn't get moving that quickly on the return trip. By the end I wasn't trying to run fast for the joy of speed, but just to get back inside and eat dinner. But, as I once heard the famous Williams cross-country All-American Hannah Cole used to say, "gotta get comfortable being uncomfortable."
