Buffalo Bridge w/ David Bergreen and Julia Smith

December 22, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Dumbarton Bridge, the one with the Buffalo statues that connects Foggy Bottom to Georgetown, was where David and I met up last year for a run with another Julia. This time Julia (Smith) and I drove down there to meet him and then went on a meandering adventure down to "The Reach" -- the Kennedy Center new outdoor lawn were Nomi, Myles, and I went to see a movie screening on Halloween. We then crossed the Teddy Roosevelt Bridge into Virginia, a bridge I'm not sure I'd ever run across before. We took the trail along the GW parkway North for a mile till we had a gorgeous view of Georgetown University and the whole DC waterfront under Key Bridge. (Side note: when I was in 3rd grade at Lowell School I wrote a spy story about a secret organization that had its offices hidden under Key Bridge. No signs of espionage were visible on this run, but you never know! They could be well hidden.) We then came up over the bridge into Georgetown and wound our way back to David and Sammy's apartment in Georgetown from whence Julia and I proceeded to ramble around Columbia Heights and 13th street, pausing to check out the unusual trapezoidal track at Cardozo High School, and back via Logan Circle out my car. We talked about students cheating on chemistry exams, the challenges of staying on top of one's work in Ph.D. school, David's dream of leading an assassination ghost tour through DC, qualifying exams, how we missed our Small Liberal Arts College teaching style, and other fun topics.

Great run! I wish Julia didn't live halfway across the continent.
