Swift Canal Run

January 16, 2020 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Ran east on Regent's Canal to Mile End Park, and then back through that park, Victoria Park, and along the canal path again, finally ending up at Chapel Market where I paused to buys some fresh berries. I felt a bit weary from last night's workout but tried not to let it get me down. Once I hit the canal I jumped from a 9-minute pace to a 7-minute pace and managed to keep my pace between 6:30 and 7:10 over the next 8 miles. Due to the slow first and last mile, the overall pace for the run doesn't really reflect my effort. I was trying to go comfortably hard in a way that wouldn't quite qualify as a tempo run or have me breathing loudly but still required constant vigilance. It was a bit mentally draining, in the end, to be telling myself to push the pace for over an hour, even if that physical toll wasn't that intense. Then again, my legs have felt sore ever since in a hard work sort of way. Hopefully, that fatigue from yesterday is part of the reason. I want this pace to become automatic and effortless.
