Scampered down to Battersea Park after teaching my data science class, only to discover the power was out at the track and the Fulham Running Club has all dispersed. My friend Rose wasn’t there anyway it turns out. I went ahead and did the workout the club had planned but around the park instead of the track. Its a lot harder to do pickups by yourself in the dark when you don’t know the distance you’re covering. I was supposed to do Yasso 8s: 800m at 2:49 (my marathon time with the hours and minutes read as minutes and seconds) followed by a 400m recovery, so I set my watch to go off every 2:49. After 3 of them I figured out a better system: track my mileage ok Strava and hit stop every half mile. That way I could at least see my average pace and whether I was speeding up or slowing down. I decided after 5 of them I would do 10 instead of 8 because the pace wasn’t was hard as I’d intended. On my 10th one however I decided to just keep going and covered a mile instead of 800m, which felt like the challenge I’d been seeking all along. Jogged back to the Tube. My knee was acting up with a strange new pain when I was walking around before and after, but it didn’t seem to bother me during the workout.
