Mallards!

February 20, 2020 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Discovered a new river. Actually, I discovered The New River, an aqueduct built in the 1600s by a London goldsmith to bring drinking water to the city ("new" being a relative term here). I'd seen it on maps on the internet, but I'd doubted for some time that any of it was actually still visible and accessible by trail this close into London. But when I saw signs for it on my run I started following them alongside a park, through a diagonal pedestrian shortcut, and down the median of an extra-wide road. Just when I'd given up on seeing more than an architectural trace of where the river had once been, I arrived at a major road crossing after which a winding linear park began. Sure enough, there was the stream and it was FULL OF MALLARD DUCKS! What could be more delightful than a hidden urban river full of ducks? Nothing, that's what! The ducks made my day. Then I stopped for a Classic Cheese Toastie from a charming little English cheese shop. This also made my day. Even though it was soon pouring and my grilled cheese sandwich ("toastie" is a more fun word for it) almost got soaked, it's okay because DUCKS LIKE RAIN.
