Exploring South London

February 22, 2020 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Easy run down past St. Paul's Cathedral and over the Millenium pedestrian bridge into Southwark. Checked out a striking memorial to the firefighters who gave their lives during the Blitz, the site of Shakespeare' Globe Theatre, the ruins of the Palace of the Bishop of Salsbury, the Shard (a rather unique skyscraper that dominates the south London skyline), the Elephant and Castle neighborhood, a grand looking baptist tabernacle, a strange skyscraper that appears to have three giants fans implanted into the upper floors, the site of London's first zoo and some dramatic old pleasure gardens where an active model of Mt. Vesuvius would erupt each night, a very beautiful church on Brixton Street, and the historic Kennington and Vauxhall Parks. After popping into an irresistible bakery for breakfast, I took my lox and eggs toast with a pain au chocolate on the side with me on Victoria Line which I rode from Vauxhall back to King's Cross. Quite a morning! Time for a nap.
