Last NESCAC School Standing

March 18, 2020 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Went on a delightful run today with the illustrious Ilana Zeilinger, who informed me that Bates had been the last of NESCAC colleges to close, somehow thinking the global pandemic wouldn't reach the backwoods of Maine. It did of course, and the students had about 3 days to evacuate. Crazy times! Also got to hear about Ilana's mom Laura, DC Director of Human Services who's been working some crazy hours trying to keep city's homeless shelters functioning amidst a pandemic. Had to remind Ilana to keep 6 feet apart sometimes, but we stuck to empty streets for the most part that we could run down the middle of so it was pretty easy.

Starting from the Zeilinger house right by GDS, we headed out to Westmoreland Hills and ended up running right past the Mostashari house (sorry AnSo, but you were probably still in virtual class). After cutting down to the Little Falls Trail, we bravely fought our way up the epic paved trail hill to Sangamore Road, got ourselves thoroughly lost in Jacob Gaba's neighborhood, and then found our way back via Overlea Road to the spot where Mass Ave sidewalk goes under the crescent trail in a concrete tube (know what I'm talkin 'bout?). We then braved another massive hill through the Geico Loop neighborhood down one of those streets Abby Murphy has valiantly attempted to remember the names of, until we reached the famous Shroom house (it's literally a house shaped like a mushroom). We then meandered back to GDS where we took a bunch of selfies on the construction site and hopped a fence or two as hoppers are apt to do. The perfect way to start our quarantine training!
