April 26, 2020 (Afternoon)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 50s and some misting in the second half, some mud
Comments:
For a number of quarantine Sunday's I've pushed off my run too far and bailed out. Today, I got myself out the door and was most grateful for that. It was another splendid run and I'm quite pleased that I've been so regular about running because it affords me opportunities like this.
Struggled to settle on a log title because a number of ideas popped into my head. The winner was due to the unbelievable beauty of the ripening green leaves bursting out under wet conditions. Other options a) "She'd better log this one" in reference to passing Julia Gazelle Gunther on Western Ridge trail. b) "Well placed stones" was a reference to the exceptionally well set stones which peeked out of the creek crossing on western Ridge despite the heavy rains of April. Even so, I barely maintained balance. c) "A Right triangle" See route below.
Basically, Western to Boundary Bridge. Western Ridge to Northampton and home the usual McKinley-Livingston way. Pace was probably slower than it felt as trails were slick with mud and I always start slower than I think, but the effort felt like 7:50 down to low sevens as the run went on. Coming up Livingston I was 64 seconds to the driveway and 58 from there to home. Counted steps a few times in the final road miles and was happy to see 174 up to even 180 as I focused. A good solid week, even if I didn't quite manage 40 miles.
