Delightful

May 6, 2020 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
This was the most delightful run I’ve had in weeks! (Yes, my memory has a strong recency bias here, so no offense to anyone I ran with more than 48 hours ago). Ran with Spills and K-Train from the Pillard house in Van Ness down the Melvin Hazen Trail into Rock Creek Park. I wore my GDS bandanna as a mask and we aimed for quiet or closed off street we could run in the middle of in order to spread ourselves apart. We spotted Sophia Mohammed on Beach Drive Who was walking while talking on the phone, probably to Ana Gunther, who we later saw as well at 33rd and Broad Branch. Katherine had apparently never explored the northern woods of Rock Creek Park and on a whim decided to suggest we pop down one of the cross trails which I happened to know quite well. In fact, It took us past the exact same spot where the Gunther sisters, Rihanna, and I (and someone else? Julia Smith perhaps?) had ended up submerged in Pinehurst Tributary last summer. We almost had a less-deliberate repeat of that given experience given our rock-hopping skills (Sarah) or general disregard for mud (me), but we mostly finished with one wet shoe and one dry shoe, steeplechase style. The Pinehurst Trail is maybe not the best place to run an hour after a heavy rain storm unless you want to see what British cross country is like which, I’m pleased to say, all of us were game for. We came back via Western to 33rd past my house and Lafayette and down into Forest Hills where we ran up a newish trail off of Linnean that deposited us on the Satellite Loop. The pace was swift, the conditions adventurous, the conversation entertaining, and the company charming. Kind of the best run ever if you ask me.
