Exercise Type: Run
Weather: very, very humid and low 70s
Comments:
This was a brutal run. Looking back on it I must have been dehydrated. I had been drinking lots of water, but don't seem to have been absorbing it over night for some reason. I've been trying to re-hydrate throughout the day, but seemed on the verge of cramping at times despite. Ran up to Tenley with a bit of urgency as I was behind schedule to meet crawlers at the late hour of 6:40am. 8:00 first mile accelerating a bit as I went. Alex, Alice, Myles, Sam, and I went Neb Ave-BK-Chain Br Rd-Neb-Wisc-3944. Felt pretty low energy, with tired legs and heavy breathing. Coming up the hill was awful. I had to summon so much focus just to keep pace with Alex and not loose momentum. It was one of those days where all I wanted to do was stop. At the top of the hill, saw childhood neighbor Christy Halverson walking here dog which was nice and even though she kept going in the opposite direction, I used it as an excuse to stop and walk and then circle back for the others. Myles looked shocked and horrified as he noted my walking. Still, I barely found it in me to start back a few seconds later when Sam and Alice crested. Slogged the rest of the way to Tenley Library where I was relieved to get to stop again. Lingered as long as was possible before I trudged home. Pace was actually at 7:45 for that mostly downhill mile, and I admit I was working hard to get it over with, but I felt like a full sized upright piano. (They don't have much turnover.) Guzzled some Gatorade and enjoyed a very cold shower... after sitting on my porch under the fan for 20 delirious minutes. Not the kind of run which inspires confidence, but I've been doing this long enough to know it is a necessary step towards the next phase of fitness. I am left wondering how much of this was hydration and if I could be fighting off the cold Lewellyn had last weekend or if I don't recover as fast as I used to after giving blood?
