May 30, 2020 (Afternoon)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: low 80s, some breeze and lower humidity than last few days.
Comments:
Worked in the yard for a good chunk of time in the midday. Drove Leah to Arlington and parked halfway up the Reservoir Rd hill from Fletchers. Jogged down to the canal to meet Leah Snider who conveniently showed up 20 seconds later, having just finished her 35 mile of the day! Walked with her up to her car which was even higher up the hill than mine and got to chill with her while she swigged pickle juice, drank water, ate Uncrustables, massaged her legs and re-applied sunscreen. The Phoenix was in full beast mode today and looked like she was high on adrenaline. While she was admittedly and understandably feeling the miles, she was perky, alert, ready for more, and in high spirits. It was unbelievably inspiring. We set back off to walk down the hill and I had time to join her for about the first mile of her next run of her standard 5 mile out and back loop up the tow path. Alas, I had a deadline to collect books from Politics and Prose before their 5pm closure (which I made with 3 minutes to spare) and I doubled back at the Chain Bridge overpass and hustled (as fast as my still dead legs could carry me) back up to my car.
About an hour later, I headed out with Anna B to get in her first run in four days. We took brick path to Somerset Pool trail to Willard and home via squirrel park. Nice to have a run with Leah and Anna, even if it wasn't with the two of them together or the two people with those names who are my daughters. Hoping my body will return to a normal level of freshness soon. First run was probably a little over 2 miles when you add up my 2 minute jog early on, etc. Second run was probably longer than 2 as well. Still, with all the breaks and the fact that the "run" was spread between 3:30 and 6:30, I can't bring myself to call this more than 4 miles for the day.
