Comments:
After our family camping trip in Manasses from Friday to Saturday, and no running Saturday, I was thinking I'd go long today, but I didn't. Various family things and my lack of motivation kept that from happening, but I did get in a splendid run. Drove down to 4th and Eye streets, NW and parked in front of Baan Siam at 6:30pm. Jogged down 4th to the mall, loosening up somewhat as I went and waving at the soldiers and police who were parked at every intersection blocking vehicular traffic from entering the CBD. Turned west and ran along the main mall gravel paths past calm pockets of people enjoying the incredibly mild evening. Went past the Sylvan Theater and as I looped past the base of the Washington Monument, three helicopters passed overhead and settled on the lawn of the White House. Gave the man a salute of sorts and continued up 15th and over on H. Paused for a few solemn moments along Black Lives Matter Plaza to take in the scene and appreciate what has been going on there over the past two weeks. The site feels different and the hope is that there is a difference. Eventually moved on down H and NY ave back to the car at a decent pace. Collected dinner from the restaurant and drove home to celebrate our anniversary and appreciate our privileges. As I found out on Monday, a few minutes of stretching might have been worth it. A memorable run, to say the least.
