For Sara's brother's 27th bday he wanted to tackle this climb today (We originally planned to do it Thursday, hence why I did hill reps yesterday). Wasn't sure how this "back-to-back" would feel, but overall, surprisingly well!
Sara and I took off from the North TH (like LY), but man, this year, the trail was "ratchet AF" ... Overgrown, washed out in some spots, and not maintained at all. So, made the most of an already-brutal climb. It was slower-going, but enjoyable. Summitted this 2.25mi climb in 37min, then descended the backside toward the Southern TH (True "Southern hospitality" on this section) as its more open, runnable, and more forgiving grades. Thinking about parking at this TH in the future.
Sara was, of course, a freakin beast out here. Even though she doesn't really do hills, she always runs strong (even descending!) ... So it was super fun to do some honest climbing and descending.
After the 2nd summit, we "gingerly" made our way back down to the cars, however, I ate shit with about a mile to go! It was true "2011 TNF50 fashion" as I fell on that same "left side" as I did in that race and scraped my legs/hand up pretty good. lol .... Nothing felt hurt so we pressed on!
Post-run: We all met up at Pelican Brewery for a super good Hazy (tough to find a good Hazy in Oregon!) and scarfed down some Burgz.
Fun day! .... For sure gonna beach-it and run flat the next 2 days. 4k of climbing in the past 2 days!
