First of all, let me say how moved I have been to read running-log accounts from alumni, coaches, and current runners as well as Strava reports. I've also received nearly two dozen emails from alumni this weekend. Thanks for making time to both run and update me on it... and often your lives as well.
This was a memorable run. (I guess any run that necessitates a trip to an ER is memorable.)
Ended up putting off my run until after dinner as I do enjoy the occasional summer nighttime run and I needed to work on the email to the team about mimicking pre-season camp. (It takes even longer to write than to read.) Left home around 11:20pm as Lewellyn informed me she didn't think it was a good idea to run so late in the dark. Couldn't decide if I should run on the golf course or on the roads around its perimeter. After a double hesitation at the first intersection, I decided to check out the golf course. It didn't go well. Sustained a puncture wound in the front, top of my right shin. Not sure what caused it, but being off trail on a moonless night didn't help. Also spent some time in a pond I hadn't noticed was there. Ran about 30 more minutes after the shin injury as it wasn't hurting much and I needed to wend my way home. Once home, I realized it was quite deep. despite hosing down, showering, and using some disinfectant, I realized that this was the sort of wound that should be professionally cleaned. Arrived at Sibley around 1:15 and left around 4:30 with two stitches and dozens of chapters of my book read. Might need to remember that a moon is a good thing to have shining on a night run.
