The More the Merrier

January 2, 2010 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Having had so much fun running in the morning, and running in general recently, I decided to go for another run. Having realized Matt wasn't at practice I called him and he was happy to go out for a run.
I ran down to his house (a quick .2 mile warm up) and we headed out. Again, the company proved great, and though there was a little ache in the legs they pulled along nicely through a bike path loop that got extended with a loop around Carmel Creek Park to make an about 5 miles at 7 minute pace (though there is no real way of knowing exactly without a watch).
After these 5 miles we ran to Victor's house, and essentially (with a short pause) 'picked him up.' With him the pace didn't decrease and we ran to Dan's house letting him join what had now become a quartet. We headed around past Carmel Knolls Park and the PAC to Powerline Hill. Throughout the whole run the pace had not come off and I was at about mile 17 on the day. I was starting to get dizzy but absolutely enjoying it and not wanting to get dropped I suggested walking straight up Powerline and this was enough rest to get me feeling good enough to come in quickly to the school. According to Vistor's log, between his house and the school we went 3.7 miles at 7.09 mile pace, so a very solid steady state.
Arriving at the school track,The other three were quite excited to feel speed and so after lots of stretching and another little half mile warm up they headed out on a 400 at about 58. Though I started with them I came in at 69. It was hard but comfortable. Worrying that pushing in to too much more speed would cause injury but enjoying the feeling of 'pusing the door,' I started on my self-assigned workout of 4x69 with 2 minute breaks in between. No one joined me, the three instead putting one more very fast 400 in. I had tons of fun on my workout and was hitting my times perfectly, not though because I was relaxed for there was quite the strain. On the last one, as I turned the 200 meter corner and popped up on my toes, my calfs both yanked up really, really tight. Insisitng on defending PERFECTION I went on and the cool down (.5 miles) openned them up a little bit, but it is something I will have to keep an eye on.
Anyway the long run was relaxing, the track work was great. Overall fun, nice workout, it really hit the spot.
