Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
The miles got to me just a little bit after about Mile 7 like they have been tending to lately, but since it happens every day and continues to be a "good pain" I think I'll just keep doing it. (Well take that back- tomorrow I am talking to coach, and barring violent disapproval, will keep doing that)

Anyway, the run today was very nice. It started with a very solid pack (the whole team and one Alumni) which was very, very nice and led to some solid gossip. The pack stayed through Reverse Cathedral, where some turned back but a good group of us (Arjun, Blake, Eckberg, D-Jack, Connor and I) continued all the way to the end of the bike path, then turned around to come up the trail behind Vons that still need a name and continue our run up to the school for 70 minutes.

The pace stayed good, the stories were nice and overall it was enjoyable. The legs ache and have fairly minimal elasticity, but they are getting stronger- at least they better be.
I have new motivation for all of this training though:

Yesterday the MIT Head Cross Country Coach called. Told me he couldn't help me get in too, too much but that if I got in that he would be very interested in having me run there. He was a cool guy; we talked about steeple chasing, indoor track, etc.

Today I got an email from the BYU Cross Country Head Coach, the important part of which follows:
To be recruited at BYU, usually means you finished well in state cross country, ran well at the footlocker regional and/or have run a time of about 1:53, 4:17 or 9:12. If your times are more in the 1:57, 4:28, or 9:30 range you may have a chance to make the team as a walk-on. Currently your times are a little below that range but I would expect you to be in that range by the end of your senior year. The first two weeks of the school year, the walk-ons can train with us. At that point in time we have a time trial and one or two freshman may be asked to continue training with the team.

Basically I have a super outside chance, but its a window big enough that I am totally reaching for it.
Anyway, after getting back from my nearly 10 mile run (I will ask Blake tomorrow for the exact distance) I did a little speed work with Dillon. Started with a 31 for 200 meters- not hard, then 200 meter jog, 33 for 200 meters- same effort, 200 meter jog then the big one.

I started with Dillon, but let him have the inside. Turning the corner, and heading in to the straight he had stretched nearly 20 feet on me. I was fading and sort of felt that déjà-vu of a workout gone bad. I though didn't give up and focused up. The speed sort of started to come, and then the belief, and then the kick quite reminiscent of what I felt freshman year. The speed is definitely there, but it is hidden in a deep hole and requires a big shovel of desire to access.

Anyway excited for Track races, excited to figure out my college "lot," and excited to long again with Dillon tomorrow.
