Old leg's don't like speed without a proper warm up

May 10, 2021 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: lovely, mid 60s, sun

Comments:
Rode the bus to Ellington with sprinters and some mid-D students. After two days off, and a short night's sleep leading up to today, I should have been more careful to do drills, etc. Instead, I jogged a mile, felt stiff and went ahead and tried to run the workout with sprinters even though I was noticing the tightness in the right hamstring that had begun last Wednesday morning minutes after my 5 x200 workout. I felt old and stiff on the 300 which I ran a few steps back from Ella and Ruby and mixed in with others in the second group. Don't actually know my times for any of these as I was busy shouting times and very unfocused. After 5-7 minutes of hardly any jogging and lots of talking to distance runners, I tried to run the 500 with the top group. That didn't go well. Left hamstring was tightening very noticeably by the 300 meter mark and while I finished, both hamstrings were very tight/cramping/lightly strained along with the right calf. Don't know the time, but the effort was pretty strong as it had been for the 300. Jogged a bit more and then focused just on timing the remaining 300 and 200. Legs, especially the left ham are very tight as I write this at midnight. Am I getting to that age where the important part isn't how I run the workout, but that I get to the workout on healthy, working legs?
