BFEC's Dog Days Trail Running Festival (5k race + warmup and cooldown)

very, very tough... many steep hills and difficult footing almost the entire way through - had to be very careful on the downhills. the overall winner (a guy who runs for the Naz? but is going to OSU and running next year, I think? ran it in 22 minutes haha, so I don't feel too bad). The second mile included some of the steepest hills out on the BFEC south trails including Coach's favorite hill up the middle of the trails.

Anyway, regardless of the slow time... it was so much fun, and I felt really tough the entire way through - I ran up all of the hills even though most of the people were walking up them, and I was just having a really great time out there. trail running is a blast! when I finally got to more level sections of the trails, I would pick it up a lot and I felt strong. This could never work as a CC course because most of it is too narrow, but on a few of the grassy sections at the beginning and the end, it felt like courses I've run, and it got me really exciting to race again! I loved the smell of the wet grass, and I wore my spikes too just for fun!

I had a kind of a down week of running because I was feeling really worn out and discouraged, but now I feel much more recharged and ready to go. I'm glad I took two days off this week and took my mileage down to 50 something last week, and only 30 something this week. Next week, I plan to go back up to about 60.
