Looking ahead

Thoughts on the months ahead.
I just took a pretty mellow 10 days without any quality runs or focus, and a couple of days off. Now I've signed up for the lottery for Cherry Blossom. I'm turning 50 in January and would like to give a solid effort at a few winter/spring races. I'm hoping to get excited for some real training. A few haphazard goals:
Run an indoor mile and see what I can do. (Do at least 2-3 real workouts before hand.)
Run a 5km in under 19 (preferably under 6 min miles)
Run a 10km, perhaps at sub 6:30 if not sub 6:20 pace.
Run Cherry Blossom, knowing I've done some actual work over the winter to prepare.

That work would hopefully include at least a smattering of 50+ mile weeks, a long run every other week (maybe including some in the 12+ mile range), some workouts, not just for the mile, but also for the 10 miler, and some core work done with focus and regularity.

I don't think I'm ready to write out a four month training guide yet, but I'll start by planning the next few weeks.

Week of December 12: 35-40 miles Striders at least once. Core 2-3 times
Week of Dec 19: 40 + miles with a long run and at least one tempo and one set of striders. Core 2-3 times
Week of Dec 26: 40+ miles, short track workout in Petaluma to prep for Avocado (Maybe 800 in 3:00, 600 , 2x400, 2x200), at least one other day with striders and 3 days of core
Week of January 1: 40+ miles, Avocado Invitational 4x400, one long run, at least one other day with striders and 3 days of core
Week of January 8: Treat yourself to something fun for your birthday... a long trail run somewhere interesting, or a workout on an indoor track, or a nifty tempo?

Revisit the planning in early January.
