January 1, 2023 (Afternoon)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: high 50s, lovely SF weather
Comments:
I'd had it in my head I'd run a light workout at the Petaluma track in the afternoon, but that didn't come to pass. We drove south to SF, arriving just before five and loosing the daylight on what was a gorgeous, clear day (after raining since we'd arrived on Friday). I talked myself out of the run several times and began drinking copious amounts of boba drinks. When it became clear the Burma Superstar food wouldn't be ready until 6:45, I had no more excuse and got myself out the door, assuming I'd jog a slow 3 miles. I headed West on Anza and slogged my way up the steep hill to Washington HS before shifting over to Balboa. I kept convincing myself to go further as it was a lovely night with the moon just past half full and mild air. Eventually I got myself to 47th and when I heard waves, I convinced myself to run down the three steep blocks to set foot on Ocean Beach sand before turning back for home. I also convinced myself to run a ladder workout. Somehow, after the first two uphill intervals, I also decided to extend the ladder with 90 second additions. I ended up doing 30 sec, 60 sec, 90 sec, 120 sec, 90, 60, 30 and I ran an equivalent cooldown after each interval. Retracing my steps, this brought me back to 20th when I was just finishing the last 1 min interval. I extended the run by circling Si and Lis's block twice -the last one for cooldown. It was a satisfying workout. I felt heavy and don't think I was going very quickly, but I did it (rather than sit on the couch drinking boba) and I definitely pushed myself on the intervals. The elevation change was like the ladder itself as the final three intervals were mostly downhill or flat and the first 4 were generally uphill. Burmese tasted good afterwards.
