Half the planned workout

February 22, 2023 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: mild, 50s, grey

Comments:
Pretty low on motivation to run. Feet and legs were sore in strange ways after a quality run yesterday morning and 45 minutes of soccer in small cleats yesterday afternoon. Finally got myself out the door after minimester and a short nap. I'd been thinking about 4x mile on the crescent trail, but convinced myself that it would be okay to just run 4 x half mile on the trail instead -as I was short on time and motivation. Ran over on Dorsett and left to Potter plaza. Did about 20 meters worth of 4-5 drills, on e strider, and leg swings. Ran up, down, up, down, always along that stretch towards the pool and gave myself about 58 seconds of recovery jog after the first two and 65 seconds after the third. Ran the first one stiffly, but under control. 3:04 uphill. Second felt loser, stayed controlled 3:01 downhill. Worked pretty hard on the third, 3:00 uphill. Ran aggressively, but purely in the gravel and focused on form for the fourth. 2:53.0 downhill. Glad I was naturally under the 3:15 race pace target I'd set for myself, and pleased that even though my legs were sore, I was able to push and run smoothly. It was a good workout and bodes well, I think. I'm glad I decided to go beyond my comfort zone on the last two. Now I'm thinking I need to do a long run this weekend and then do a 4 x mile workout below 6:30 pace within the next ten days, maybe with a pacer? It would probably be good to get in a 6 x mile workout before mid March, for that matter. Definitely feel like I'm in better shape than I have been in some years, so that's gratiying.
