Drove on my own to EHS and put on my speed shoes. Ran a mile... first 3-4 laps were at 8min pace, but I naturally loosened up and finished it in 7:34. Without pause I flowed into a series of three strong 800s with 200 meter recoveries. Added on six cooldown laps to get to 3.5 miles.
800s = 2:56, 2:53, 2:48
Recovery laps were 71

I was pretty nicely wiped out as I finished the third interval, but it was nice to have that familiar feeling once more. Generally please with how easy it was to slide into each pick up and know that I was going sub 6 pace without having to strain. At the same time, workouts are painful and I'm not sure I've got the stomach or drive to do this sort of thing for two more months. A quick shower and then coached good for the next 6 hours. (Mostly younger runners competing well.) Speed shoes seem like the right choice as I'm not too beat up as I write this 24 hours later.
