July 31, 2024 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: upper 70s, very humid
Comments:
On the whole, I liked this run... Great route, good folks to run it with, classic awful summer humidity, and it was finished by 8am. Unfortunately, the dynamics of the run led to an absurd positive split and I'm including my warm up lap to claim my run was 7 rather than 6.75 miles... which always feels lame. Sucked out by some frisky Stalbans boys we set off well under 7 flat pace, and while I could bluff the early downhills and flats, I conceded what was probably 8ish pace for the final two mostly uphill miles. No shame in any of it, I know, and I'd wanted a quality day --which I got. Still, 99.9 percent of my runs are even or accelerating, and I don't care to be setting off at a pace I don't expect to hold. Route was from STA morning practice to Mass to Lovers' Ln through G-town to Kennedy Center to Roosevelt bridge to GW trail to Key Bridge and up 34th to Wisc to Observatory Cr and STA. Hurting and overheating in Georgetown without a working water fountain to be found, I stepped into the glorious air conditioning of the M St Starbucks and slipped into the restroom for some gulps of faucet water and several minutes of cool air. Alone from that point onward, I took a more mellow pace up through Georgetown and finished under control but in a puddle of un-evaporating sweat. Early miles were with Mark, Bandrew, mid-Wolin, and STA's William C. Heading north this afternoon since practice was moved to the morning to avoid afternoon heat. Again some minor achy-ness from the lifting yesterday.
