January 28, 2026 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 25, sun

Comments:
I've been logging, as usual on Running-log, but am throwing this one on Strava to motivate Hoppers who haven't braved the outdoors yet. I ran basically to school from home, by way of Ft. Reno. Looped campus and the surrounding streets to assess how runnable it all would be if we were let back to school and practice. (We aren't... yet.) I felt slow and out of shape because I am. The knee behaved despite a few scrambles over snow embankments at intersections and a few (mostly) hard frozen patches of sidewalk. Generally could find a combo of streets and sidewalks which were cleared to pavement, but it certainly would be hard to have large groups of runners moving in packs, and individuals need to run defensively if on streets, be at peace with slowing down to cross snow /ice patches, and be flexible in route planning to search out and use the best surfaces they can find. Rumor has it that the Crescent trail is clear. Use Strava and the team group chat to share other cleared zones where running is decent. I recommend sidewalks and streets that go north and south as sunlight is more likely to be helping the slow melt and sublimation. The sidewalks on the north sides of the street will also be slightly better, generally speaking. The sidewalks around GDS' campus are all clear except for a 50 meter stretch along Ellicott. If everyone returned to work and school tomorrow, the gridlock on local streets which have all been reduced to single lanes would be brutal.
