First Run w/ Georgetown Running Company

March 6, 2010 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Pace felt swift, challenging for most of the run. Me and another runner got ahead in the first mile or so, and several other runners came up to join us. I was feeling pretty nervous about the pace while we were on the tow-path, even though I was keeping up a conversation, I was constantly worried about being the new guy in the group and not being able to keep up. Luckily, I held my position for the entire run, either being next to the leader, right behind the leader, or being the leader myself. We turned onto the Crescent trail which down below the tunnel is free of ice, and started to climb, still holding and sub-7 pace that had me breathing a lot, but still able to talk. Turned off at Sibley, and the hill up Loughborough look particularly intimidating but I grew more confident as I ran, and found I wasn't even breathing as hard as the guy next to me. All those mountains at Williams helped I think, if not my current fitness, that at least my courage. Pace lighted up after Ward Circle. Going through Glover where I found myself in the lead for the first time, and had no worries about keeping up for the last 5 miles of the run. Decided to add on with 2 other guys when we hit the canal, heading up to Fletcher's Boathouse and back to the store at about a 6:30 pace both ways. Felt better and stronger than when I started. All in all, as spectacularly empowering run.
