The most impressive part of my workout was not going back to sleep. By 5:10 I had left the house and was driving to Dunbar High off North Capitol St and New York Ave. Jogged a stiff mile and did dynamic drills, but ran out of time for striders. Did 4x1600 with slow and generous 400m recoveries.
Started first one 10 seconds back due to inability to take sweats off without tipping over. Caught the pack of 20 or so and overtook them all within 250m. Ran alone except for the second one and the first 800 of #3. times=5:28, 5:22, 5:21, 5:16 (closed in 74) Felt very smooth and controlled, but pace was always a little on the positive split side (usually went out like 1:19, 2:40, 4:01). Generally a very encouraging workout. It helps that most of that mayoral training group is over 40 and triathletes. Added one mile cool-down and home by 7:00am.
