Miserable miles

March 31, 2010 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 1:45pm, 68, bright sun, and steady wind

Comments:
Drove to Rockville to join The Bug for HIS 4x1600m workout with 200m recoveries(target pace=5:40) at Tilden Middle School. Scant 2 mile warm-up and some drills/striders. Felt a bit heavy before it even started. Trailed Brian for most of first one (by a few meters...increasing) and led 3rd until he dropped me on final 400. Third one, he was ahead from the start, but dropped out to dry-heave at 800m and rejoined to catch me and push me on final 400m. I ran last one alone.
5:29(1:19, 1:23, 1:25?, 1:22?)
5:31(1:23, 1:22,1:221:23)
5:35(1:24, 1:27, 1:26, 1:18)
5:31 (1:25, 1:26, 1:24, 1:15)
Took a brisk 2 mile cool-down and rushed off in car to GDS practice.

List of excuses...
Mislead by Bug about pacing and irritated to be doing it "alone" despite potential partner. It was my third run in 16 hours. Poor night's sleep. Tired from a heavy week last week. Hot sun. Significant head wind on both straight-aways. (How does that happen?) Kept comparing it to last week's 4x1600 which had twice or more the recovery. Yoga was more taxing than expected? (I'm reaching now.)

In the end, I was just totally unfocused when Bug was not beside me or when wind was in my face. Felt like I was a truck of Molasses running uphill in the winter time. Some 200m splits were at 44! I was just dragging myself around with no confidence and praying it would be over instead of focusing on form and pushing myself. I had no will power and I was getting more and more disgusted with myself with every passing split. Of course, when I could muster focus, I'd regain form and get upright again, but that usually only happened when the end was in sight. It is what it is. I'll be stronger for having done it, but it has been awhile since I've felt so overwhelmed by a workout.
