Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
I drove down to Dunbar High School in Shaw (north of Chinatown) for a track workout. Warmed up for 2 1/2 miles in the neighborhood only to discover that the track was being used for Middle School Meet. "What time's this suppose to be over?" I said to two of moms in the stands. "Well, it was supposed to end at 7pm they replied, but it started an hour an half late so it'll probably end at 8:30." Disgusted, I walked out the gates, past the sign that said "track closes at dusk," and began racking my brain for where I could find another track that had steeple chase barriers. I had a prior engagement in just over an hour, so driving across town to Duke Ellington or St. Albans was out. Then it occured to me that I'd seen a really nice football field up at Cardozo high school, and maybe, just maybe, there was a track around it. I raced up Florida Ave 2 miles and sure enough, there it was, bizarrely asymmetrical with short curves and long straightaways of varying lengths, but exactly 400m. And lo and behold, they had steeple barriers!
Here is the workout:
4 x 400m w/ 100m recovery (flat)
Times: 72, 72, 71, 70
8 x 200m w/ 200m recovery (w/ one barrier I jumped off from to simulate the water hazard and one trash can w/ a water bottle on top)
Times: 33, 35, 35, 35, 33, 32, 33, 32
