STEEPLE!

April 10, 2010 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: high 60s, sunny

Comments:
Ran a solid steeple chase race at Prep, against a bunch of high school kids. Got second, finishing nearly a minute behind the little brother of one of my Williams teammates who is a senior and a Div I recruit (and apparently crazy fast). I warmed up thoroughly, did all my stretches and hurdle drills beforehand, but at the line I became too caught up in the idea of the race being "just of fun" and "an exhibition." While I certainly enjoyed it, I know I could have gone faster if I've had a more competative mentaltiy. But of course, it's hard to be competitive in a distance you've never done before against a bunch of kids 10 years younger than you, so I'm not beating myself up over it.

Laps:
72 (blazing!!! shot out to the front of pack)
78 (still faster than ever before)
80 (fell into second place, feeling tired)
83 (feeling really tired, really should have picked it up if I was taking it a bit more seriously)
78 (that's what I call a sprint! Oh yeah. I guess Wedensday's hurdle spring workout paid off)

I'm really proud of myself for getting over every hurdle cleanly, maintain my form, and landing all my water hazards in stride. Came through the first mile in 5:17 (wow!). My average lap pace, 78 seconds, was 6 seconds faster than my pace 2 weeks ago in the 3000m steeple, so hopefully I'll improve in that distance as well.
