Rock Creek and Northeast DC

April 11, 2010 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Sunny and beautiful

Comments:
Felt great when I stepped outside today, in spite of feeling exhausted and undertheweather last night following my steeple. I guess 10 1/2 hours of sleep helps a lot. A friend told me that the little deer trails and unnamed cross trails through upper rock creek parks had recently been groomed and cleared of debris so I headed up that way via the Pinehurst trail, crossed the park and popped up on 16th street at the top of the Holly Trail. Headed through some alleyways and pretty neighborhoods, eventually ending up at Alaska Avenue which I took to Blair, down that to Eastern, followed the Red Line (above group in these parts) down to Ft. Totten. Then back up North Capitol to Ft Slocum which I had really wanted to explore because it's has a cool name (turned out to be pretty similar to Ft. Bayard). Then up Madison to Missouri to 9th to Rittenhouse to 16th, into Rock Creek Park Golf Course and with a bit of bushwhacking found myself on the Valley Trail. After than I zoomed around beautifully smoothed out (though still hilly) side trails, eventually taking the Western Ridge back to Tennyson St. and home. Tired by the end but not totally exhausted. Drank about 5 glasses of water in the first 20 minutes afterward.
