Comments:
Running here is pretty terrible in heat or wind, but I ended up with both. I was worried about my stomach and knee, but those two things proved to be about the only part of me that did well on this run. I died, HARD. I knew I was continuously tanking throughout this and the last couple hills were atrocious. I think the heat contributed to my struggles, but all in all I think I just have to chock this one up to not being in as good of shape as I have been in past years. About every muscle in my legs was dead, my breathing was horrible, and my form came apart. Over the last like five miles, I just kept telling myself, "Don't give up. Don't give up. Don't give up..." I tasted vomit a few times and started getting dizzy. Still, I just kept going.
This is actually the second fastest I've ever run this route and this was probably the first run I've done since being hurt that I would actually consider the route, pace, and distance of to be on par with my old standards of a hard day. Sometimes when things are going well, I can get a little over-optimistic about where I am and what I still need to do and this was a clear reality check that I've got a whole lot more terrible runs ahead. Things may not feel as easy as I'd like, but I still need to do them. My goldfish is an alien. Just checking to see if anyone is still reading this.
Note 1: This is a very tough route, so 6:41 is probably closer to 6:15 effort on North Park.
Note 2: This has nothing to do with anything, but I noticed graffiti that reads "Jesus saves".
