Prospect Park

July 2, 2010 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Didn't want to run NE again, so I decided to go the other way down University Ave. Ran through prospect park and down onto the river flats. Deuced at the boathouse (thank Allah that it was unlocked, it never is) and did strides on Bierman on the way back.

I used to run in Prospect park a lot Sophomore year. That was when I still was sick and could hardly run. I remember doing 2 and 3 mile runs around the witches hat because that was all I could manage. Those runs were difficult and I was only pushing through them in hopes of getting back into shape. It was kind of a big contrast from my run today. While I'm still not in any form of racing shape that I'd like to be in, I'm still leaps and bounds above what I was. Today I was able to run 6.5 miles at 6:30-6:40 pace while breathing through my nose because it was so effortless. Hills are minor speed bumps and the recovery after a hill is complete after 5-6 strides. I'm mostly pain free and my form feels pretty good for where I'm at. It's been pretty rare for me to have times of fitness like this over the past 4 years and I'm really glad that I can at least appreciate that. A lot of people on the running club never enjoy running because all they want to do is be a Gopher. They hate looking up at them and seeing that they are slower and will never make it. I think that's a terrible way to look at running. I'm also glad that I was able to be on the team, get cut, lose a lot of fitness and still be able to enjoy this every day after all of that. Anyways, the point is that I'm ecstatic about my current training and fitness level, even if it isn't all that great compared to what I could be right now.
