So...tired...can..barely...type

August 29, 2010 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Went with Anthony and Mark at the bold hour of 7:15, a time of day I have not experienced in weeks. Felt good and fresh though; there's always something exhilarating about being up and flying along before the city begins to stir. Starting from my house we cut down to Candy Cane and zoomed north through Rock Creek Park along the bike trail unitl we came to the tunnel under the railroad tracks near Garret Park. Still feeling strong and light, as if running at 7-minute pace came naturally. We then meandered our way west through the neighborhood, passing the historic Garrett Park train station and emerging on Rockville Pike next to White Flint Mall. Still only slight fatigue. Cut across G-town Prep campus to the Bethesda Trolley Trail and that's when I really started to count the miles left till home (I'd been running for 1:16 at this point). Kept falling back along the trolley trail but managed to catch up every time without Anthony and Mark having to wait for me. By the time we popped out on Old Georgetown Road after passing through NIH, I was feeling really drained, like I could keep up if it were a race, but certainly didn't want to. No specific muscle group hurt, nor was I out of breath (breathing a bit heavy, but still no trouble carrying on a conversation). I simply felt worn and drained. The stop for water at the entrance to the Capital Crescent Trail across at Bethesda avenue really did me in. Though we were paused only a minute, I instantly had trouble getting back in gear and told Mark and Anthony to go ahead without me. I guess that's the difference running 20 miles a week (as I have) and running 70-90 miles a week as they have, makes. I might be able to smoke them in a mile race, but around mile 15 that training really makes a difference. Though I'd run almost as long on Tuesday, that pace was almost a minute slower than today, and even though it felt fine on the way out, running at 6:50 to 7:20 pace simply adds up after a while. Eased in the final two miles, taking the no exit loop to Anthony's house at a 8 to 8:30ish pace. Nearly threw up after 4 glasses of water and gatoraid, but managed to hold myself together. Mark, mercifully, gave me a ride home.
