Centipede Race

September 15, 2010 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Sunny/Susnet

Comments:
(Warning: This is long!!!)
I can say one thing for sure. I was not mentally prepared for this race. I was pretty stressed about running with the Varsity guys and I couldn't relax at all. The guys kept reassuring me I'd do well and I knew it was going to be one of the toughest races ever. And of course the gun missfired prolonging my stress. But then he just said go.

The first half of the first mile I was feeling alright, I wasn't being dragged that much and the guys were going much faster than I wanted to, but they kept cheering me on. By the end of the first mile I was already suffering. By this time the other teams racing were already telling me to keep going.

The 2nd mile was absolute hell, and I suffered even more. I was being dragged and Rusty kept telling me to relax and I kept trying and trying but it's hard when you're being forced to run faster than you've ever ran a 5k against your will. I'll be honest and say I wanted to pass out just so I could stop running. I was exhausted, and I yelled I have nothing left! And of course a response like that makes them just go faster. The team, the varsity guys, the coaches and the other teams kept cheering me on and gave me that little bit of energy and determination to run faster and to make it through hell.

When we dropped the rope, there was no possible way for me to keep the pace that the guys were making me go, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to start slowing down. My legs felt so weird and I just wanted a double cheeseburger so bad. About the last 600 when Rusty was telling me stay up with the two guys in front of me I knew I could just give it a bit more. And then when Bryce said I was at like 17:50 or 18:20, I just said to myself I can get a PR! And I was able to just give what the little bit what I thought I lost more than half the race ago for a 8 second PR!

I was dizzy and fatigued, and then first person to congragulate me was Chris and said I did awesome and I just thought to myself, you should of seen the crap I was going through. I wasn't sure how well I performed really, but from the hugs, high-fives and good-jobs I got, I was feeling better about it. And the fact that the Varsity guys were really surprised and super proud of me. So many people were going up to me and saying how well I performed. And by the end of day I was pretty proud of myself. I want to thank everyone so much and for the Varsity guys for pushing me 100 times past what I thought my limits were. It was horrible, but I'm so glad I did it.
