September 18, 2010 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 46 and dark with moon sinking over trees and lake
Comments:
Second leg at 12:30am was everything I'd hoped it would be (I'd loved doing the exact same leg last year, and this one was just as wonderful and energizing.) This time I was patient in the first two miles while I loosened up. I averaged 5:46 for an 8.24 mile middle leg under the setting moon, alongside a lakeside passing about 20-30 runners along the dark, silent road. (last year I averaged 6:02 I think. Rolling hills that took nothing out of me, but allowed for strong downhill rolling. Ball of my right foot grew a huge and painful blister under the callouses which screamed out on every step, but other than that, nothing too bad except the usual knee issues. For the rest of the night, I did not sleep, but nodded off twice while pulled over waiting to give Sam McFerran his one mile split... not good because I was at the wheel.)
